Long live the television!
Sunday, March 08, 2015

Television and summer sport brought us tennis and cricket and we watched in awe as we admired the prowess of the worlds best tennis stars along with the antics from the cheeky Australians; then there was the Australian cricket team showing what determination and self belief can produce in times of questioning and sorrow.

The Summer of 2014/2015 provided some highlights and lowlights on the lounge room television screen; some of us laughed and some cried but the one thing we all did was watch!

What is my point you ask? Well the humble television still manages to lure us with the power of Australian sport and the strong desire for fathers and sons around the county to share stories about the Baggy Green, and for mothers and daughters to decide their favourite ladies tennis outfit this summer.

 As we move forward, the month of March sees us saying goodbye to Summer as we look to the winter months and the loved sport of football.

* Rugby Union

* Rugby League

* Australian Rules

Take your pick! The power of the television will again be front and centre as backyard BBQ's on a Sunday afternoon kick off and as the "boys gather" at the local watering hole on a Friday night to watch the local derby.

If football is not your thing, then there is always the need for speed and the 'rev heads' who long for the action of the 2015 V8 Supercar Series that kicked off in Adelaide recently. Long lazy Sunday afternoons in the assumed position with mates discussing in depth the record lap speeds and spectacular crashes that really are V8 racing.

You see it does not matter what sport you choose in 2015 - the thing we all have in common is the need to watch our sport on the biggest television we can possibly afford that takes pride of place on the lounge room wall.

In the end - long live the television!
